Brilliant Basics: Great Conversations

The power of conversation
Conversations are the currency of human relationships. Everything we think and feel about others is expressed though our conversations with them.
In a work context, conversations influence all aspect of what gets done, who does it, when and how it happens. There is a positive correlation between the quality of conversations and key organisational imperatives such as employee engagement, strategy development, stakeholder relationships, collaboration and innovation.
It sounds simple, but having a meaningful conversation can be a minefield. Ego, emotions, poor listening, and the choices we make about what we say and how we say it, all play a part in how we are perceived and the results we get, both at work and at home.

It's time to speak about unspoken truths
Every day we are faced with a multitude of decisions about whether to speak out or stay silent
These moments may feel insignificant to you on their own, but together over time, they shape your life and the lives of those around you. They determine the health of your relationships and ultimately the survival of your organisation.
Much of the dysfunction we experience at work stems from people either avoiding certain conversations or handling them poorly.
-
Group think
-
Poor performance is tolerated
-
Difficult conversations avoided entirely
-
What needs to be said, isn’t
-
The status quo goes unchallenged
-
Problems that should be tackled, aren’t
-
Challenges outside of work remain undisclosed
These are all examples of what we call these ‘Unspoken Truths’.
They’re rife across all organisations and have a direct impact on talent, productivity and profits.
